St. James Birding

Spring is here and our summer resident birds are returning! Bluebirds are already nesting, other birds are singing for mates and becoming more teritorial. Explore St James' public birding at Waterway Park, the fire pit at Regency, and Founders Nature Trail.

Check out the pictures and details below. Share your sightings with us, including where and when you saw them. Your favorite spot just might make our list on our exclusive go-to page for birding hot spots in and around St. James.

Birding Hot Spots & Guided Walks

Birding Hot Spots Outside of St. James

Birding opportunities are plentiful around our region. In fact, birding in North Carolina is very popular. Whether you are just getting started, a backyard birder, or a seasoned bird-nerd, join us in exploring these important pieces of our diversity-rich land here in coastal Brunswick County.

"In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught".                                                                      - Baba Dioum

Guided Bird Walks

Birders of St. James offers resident bird walks, led by our experienced expert, Hugh Shaw. You are invited to expand your knowledge while having fun at the same time. Walks are not difficult. Just another great reason to live here!

Since birding is best accomplished in small groups, we ask that you register  with our "Walk Group" so that we can schedule and set up our bird walks for the best possible outcome. It must be noted however, that the birds will not read our memo and may not show up, or the weather may not cooperate. Once registered you will receive an email with walk details and rules.
